LINDSEY HEISE
Owner
Lindsey is a landscape designer, horticulturist, artist, and teacher. She holds a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture from Virginia Tech, a Graduate Certificate in Landscape Design from George Washington University, and a Bachelor's of Science degree in Horticulture Technology with a concentration in Landscape Design from NC State University.
After graduating from NC State in 2003, Lindsey began her career as a landscape designer working for a design-build company in Greensboro, NC, her hometown. In 2005, she moved to Washington, DC area where she began her graduate studies in Landscape Architecture. As a student at Virginia Tech’s Washington-Alexandria Architecture Consortium, Lindsey had the opportunity to work alongside architecture and landscape architecture students from around the world while exploring her interests in sustainable landscape construction, urban farming and landscape psychology.
Lindsey's Master’s thesis, “Urban Nurture: Redefining the American Park Model by Growing Food and Providing Refuge”, is a project that investigates how the American park model can be redefined as a place to grow food and provide refuge in the city. Two essential elements provided by the landscape that connect humans and nature are food and refuge: bodily nourishment and restoration of the psyche. By combining food cultivation and refuge, this project seeks to reinvent an urban park as a place that reconnects human and nature through nurturing body and psyche.
After earning her Masters in Landscape Architecture in 2008, Lindsey secured a position as a landscape architect for the National Park Service (NPS) Denver Service Center Transportation Division located in the National Capitol Region where she provided planning, design and construction management services for parks located in the greater Washington area. During this time, she also acted as a freelance landscape designer providing custom designs for residential customers in the Northern Virginia area.
In 2014, Lindsey moved back to her native state of North Carolina where she continues to practice landscape design in Greensboro and the surrounding area. She has also been an instructor of landscape design and horticulture at Alamance Community College in Graham, NC, and addition to teaching Master Gardener classes, and speaking at professional trade shows. Lindsey is a passionate landscape designer who enjoys working with clients and contractors to create beautiful outdoor spaces as well as sharing her knowledge and passion with students and clients.
